Getting started with AI: working with Claude

From generic AI text to a method you can repeat on your own: ask clearly, check the source and take a task from notes to email. Step by step, no technical background needed.

What you learn

  • You check information from Claude against its source and date.
  • You tell Claude once who you are and what it needs to know about a project.
  • You write complete requests that produce an email draft you check before you send it.
  • You make tools you can reuse: a writing guide, an email template and a skill, meaning a saved set of instructions for a job you repeat.
  • You keep the firm's information in a vault, a folder of notes Claude answers from in new conversations too.
  • You make a clean start in a new conversation and pick up a job left half done.
  • You choose the version of Claude that suits the job and how much it should think before answering.
  • You take a job on your own from notes to an action list and an email.

Want to apply what you learned to company workflows? To choose what is worth building, see AI Roadmap. If you have already chosen a use case, see Implementation.

Who it is for

It is for you if

  • You work every day with emails, documents and information you pass on.
  • You have tried AI a few times and got generic or hard to check texts.
  • You want a method you can repeat on your own, not just a few tricks.

It is not for you if

  • You want automations that run on their own or API integrations. The course does not cover them.
  • You already work with AI on documents every day and check your sources.
  • You cannot set up the computer before the first meeting.

Curriculum

10 chapters

  1. 1

    Checking information at its source

When you need information that changes, such as an exchange rate, ask Claude for its source and date too. Then open the source yourself and check.

  2. 2

    Global and project instructions

Tell Claude once who you are and what a folder needs it to know. It reads this for itself at the start of each new conversation.

  3. 3

    Complete requests

Give Claude your request in four parts, purpose, facts, limits and format, so it does not have to guess.

  4. 4

    Writing guide and email template

You save once, in a folder, how the company sounds and how its emails are put together. Claude then starts each draft from them, and you read and correct it.

  5. 5

    Reusable procedures: skills

Save your proofreading instructions once and call them with a command, without repeating them.

  6. 6

    A vault of notes

You keep your firm's information in a folder of short notes, and Claude finds it and adds to it from any conversation.

  7. 7

    Working with the context window

You understand what Claude sees in a conversation, ask for a summary of what is agreed now, check it and carry on cleanly in a new conversation.

  8. 8

The work note: resuming a task

When you stop halfway through a job, Claude writes where you got to in a note, and a new conversation reads it and carries on.

  9. 9

Choosing a model and effort level

You choose the model and effort to suit the job, and move up only when the result falls short.

  10. 10

A job from notes to email

You turn the notes from a visit, on your own, into an action list and a checked email draft, both saved in your vault.

What you need

  • A computer, desktop or laptop. A phone is not enough for the exercises.
  • A stable internet connection.
  • We recommend a paid Claude plan (Pro or higher). The course is taught in Claude; if you use ChatGPT, the methods apply there too.

  2. Invite your colleagues by email. Each one creates an AI Focus account and joins the company.
  3. Choose an event with a date and buy the seats. The owner or an admin pays by card and chooses the company as the buyer.
  4. Give each seat to a colleague. From your account, you assign the seats to colleagues in the company. Each one sees their seat in their own account.
